After Apples 3.0.1 IPSW release, the dev team announced that Redsn0w was capable of jailbreaking it and ultrasn0w capable of unlocking it but two days after the release, Geohet announced that neither of his tools work with this IPSW and he doesn’t plan on making them, he also said that the next time he’ll release any tool will be when the 3.1 IPSW is out, he has announced that he has an unlocking hole in the 3.1 IPSW and that the future version of Purplesn0w will unlock the 3.1 FW !

meanwhile the dev team are looking for a new hole in the 3.1 for unlocking, jailbreaking is no trouble, as the dev team have said many times before, after you’ve jailbroken a device, it’s jailbroken for life. but the Geohet VS. Dev team game is gonna go on and it’ll really accelerate after the release of the iPod Touch 3rd Gen which will have a camera and mic.

As we all know, the Dev-Team recently released their jailbreak and unlock for 3GS however just today, a recent Dev-Teammember who we know as Geohet has released his own unlock, since the Dev-Team called their jailbreak Redsn0w and their unlock Yellowsn0w, Geohet called his jailbreak purplera1n and his unlock purplesn0w.

In order to use purplra1n, first go to www.purplera1n.com and download your corresponding software, once downloaded, open the app and connect your iPhone 3GS then click “make it rain” your iPhone will start to jailbreak, once it has completed it will come to the home screen, WARNING: do not disconnect, sleep or turn your computer off until you see the home screen, you should see an app called freeze, open it and tap on “install Cydia” it will finally install Cydia, if it doesn’t reboot automatically, reboot your iPhone then you should get cydia, open cydia and add the repo: repo.geohet.com

Tap on the repo then download the file “com.geohet.purplesn0w” insert your SIM then reboot.

You are now unlocked!

Thanks to the combined efforts of AriX and westbaer, they are releasing a version of GeoHot’s purplera1n jailbreak for the  iPhone 3GS for the Mac. Both Windows and Mac versions have also received payload stability improvements, updating the the Windows version from RC2 to RC2a (although there’s no reason to use it if you already have RC2 installed). You can get both the Mac version and the new Windows version at purplera1n.com.
