Notes on Appsync and OS 3.1.3
Feb 3rd, 2010 by Mojtaba

If you want to use Appsync (installd, mobileinstallation patch, etc) on your iPhone you should wait for Dev-Team to release their new tools that support OS 3.1.3. I highly recommend you to wait…

Fastest iPhone Firmware?! [iPhone 2G]
Jan 15th, 2010 by Mojtaba

In this guide I want to help you to choose the right firmware for your device with the speed in mind. I already test all firmware from 1.1.4 to 3.2.1 (the latest firmware as I write this article) on my iPhone 2G.ipa Fastest iPhone Firmware?! [iPhone 2G]

The speed factors are as below:

  1. Switching between pages.
  2. Keyboard speed (while typing text messages)
  3. Application execution times (I know that is mainly depends on the CPU speed)

1.x

There is nothing to say about 1.x family because there is no AppStore on this family, So JUST FORGET IT!

2.x

If you remember the early versions of 2.x family (2.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, 2.1) is full of bugs so everyone decide to upgrade to newer version as soon as Apple release them. But by the releases of 2.2 the game changes. It’s stable, fast and accurate in action and also if you jailbreak it, it will bring all the good things that you need to enjoy your iPhone such as AppStore, Copy/Paste (clippy), Video recording (Cycorder), Bluetooth file transfer (iBluetooth), Background application (Backgrounder), etc.

3.x

The main feature of OS 3 is the “Push notification”. Actually there is no more notable things in this version (you can find full list here), all the things that they add to this version was previously resolved by jailbreakers. Beside that if you have to unlock your 2G using any kind of PWNing tools you will lose the Push ability, after that you will found a way called “push fix” by Dev-Team that bring push to your 2G but when you enable it, first of all your device will works very slowly and also you will get lots of false push alerts. The speed impact of the 3.x family on 2G was very ridicules, I think Apple intentionally do this in order to force 2G users to buy an iPhone 3GS. It may also happens because of jailbreaking.

Conclusion

If you want to have a fast iPhone 2G I suggest you to use OS 2.2 (if you already upgrade to 3.x you can easily downgrade it, i will post something about that in near future).

If you upgrade to 3.1.2 :

  • Overall speed reduction
  • Battery life Get
  • Some Cydia application did not work properly in all situations such as iBluetooth

If don’t upgrade to 3.1.2 (stay on 2.2)

  • There is no Push Notification
  • You can’t arrange app icons using iTunes
  • You can’t play multiplayer games (the games that runs on more than 2 iPhone)
  • SMS delivery report (actually I did not test it on 2.x)
Copying iPhone contact to SIMcard
Jan 1st, 2010 by Mojtaba

I found a new application for iPhone in Cydia called SIManager. You can manage your SIM contact in your iPhone. In this version (1.4 beta) you can also export your contacts to SIM card.

In order to install SIManager you must add the following repo in cydia then select SIManager package and install it.

Appsync (installd) is now available for iPhone OS 3.1 (& iPod Touch).

Appsync is a mobileinstallation patch for OS 3.x. As one knows in order to install cracked iPA files via iTunes, we need to install appsync (3.x) or mobilesintallationpatch (2.x)

  1. Open Cyida
  2. Add the hackulo.us repo (http://cydia.hackulo.us)
  3. Search about Appsync in Cyida
  4. Install “Appsync for OS 3.1″
  5. Enjoy!

Installous & OS 3.1
Sep 10th, 2009 by Mojtaba

Users who wants to use Installous, Appsyne, Mobileinstallation patch on their iPhones should wait for the new releases of DevTeam products (Redsn0w, PwnageTool, …) in order to Jailbreak their iPhones.

This week Apple will be all over the news with their announcements at Wednesday’s “Let’s Rock” event. But with so many new owners of the iPhone 3GS, and with so many new owners of the iPhone 3G (perhaps sold to them by these new 3GS owners)…now is a good time to send out this general advisory.

If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).

But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program lets you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware.

Stay tuned for more update & news.

Aug 19th, 2009 by sidharth

All the developers (and people who love to screw around with their phones) can now jailbreak their devices running the latest 3.1 beta 3 build 7C116a.

MAKE SURE YOU READ THE NOTE AT THE END OF THIS POST BEFORE YOU TRY ANYTHING!

This can be done using iReb from appleturk.net.

iReb can be downloaded here for Windows and here for Mac.

Download the custom ipsw from below:

iPhone 2G

iPhone 3G

iPod Touch 1GFOR THIS TO WORK YOU MUST BE ALREADY JAILBROKEN ON 3.0!

Instructions:

  1. Once you have downloaded iReb and the custom ipsw, open the iTunes 16xx bypasser.
  2. Follow on screen instructions and put your device into DFU Mode when asked to do so.
  3. Once you get a white screen on your device, close iReb and open up iTunes.
  4. Use Shift+Restore ( windows ) or Option Key+Restore ( mac ) and choose the custom ipsw you just downloaded.
  5. Wait forever for the restore process to complete and you’ll have FW 3.1 Jailbroken once your device reboots.
- ALL USERS WHO ARE TRYING THIS NEED TO HAVE THEIR DEVICES UDID REGISTERED IN THE IPHONE DEVELOPERS PROGRAM – IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS IS, DO NOT TRY THIS!
- If you are using an iPhone 3G and require the ultrasnOw unlock, DO NOT DO THIS as it will upgrade your baseband and you will not be able to unlock your phone or revert your baseband (as yet).

- iPod Touch 1G users please make sure you are on FW 3.0 and jailbroken before you try this.
- iPod Touch 2G and iPhone 3GS are not supported as yet.
- TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK – THIS MAY SCREW UP YOUR DEVICE PERMANENTLY.

Screenshots will be uploaded shortly.

Starter Kit!
Jul 23rd, 2009 by sidharth

I was just going through cydia and in the SOSiPhone repo i found a package called Starter Kit!

The description of the package [ after translation ] made me write post.

Check it out for yourself [ Translated ]:

Description: This package claims to install (or reinstall) at one time most of what you need to install on your iPhone in firmware 3.0

It includes:

Open SSH, Open SSL, WinterBoard, Five Dock Icon, Cycorder, IFILE, StatusNotifier, SBSettings, Mymedia, Cydelete and an icon for direct access to the forum SOSiPhone.

All these packages can be removed after installation independently from each other from Cydia.

That’s pretty cool right?

An all in one basic package installer :D

To get this package this package you have to be jailbroken firstly[How To?] and then you have to add the SOSiPhone source to Cydia – To do this just go to More Package Repositories in the Cydia home screen and install the SOSiPhone Source.
