How The iPhone Changed The Game
November 25th, 2009 by Sykh06

I remember the first day I got an iPhone, one of my friends had been using one for quiet a while and after a few short minutes of using his, I thought I gotta have one.

before that I was a long time Palm user and I really couldn’t work with buttons and I thought the iPhones keyboard would be hard to use but being an Apple fan and really loving the iPhone, I went and got one, at first i didn’t know much about jailbreaking or stuff like that but slowly I begun learning, the first time I jailbroke a phone was nearly a month after I got mine, it felt good and I wanted to learn more so I didn’t stop, in fact after only two years now, I have become what I consider a veteran in iPhone jailbreaking and unlocking, the knowledge I have is only gained by experience and cannot be written or given to others in anyway.

But let’s get jailbreaking out of the picture and imagine using an iPhone normally on O2 or AT&T or any other carrier, two years ago, I only used my iPhone for three things: calls, checking the time and E-mails and a little web and I could last without my iPhone for a long time, but when the 3G came out and I got one and begun using the apps in the app store, my usage was extended to many things such as having my class schedule and homework assignments in the app stundenplan or having my daily tasks managed in Things or keeping track of how much time I spend on each task with PocketPunchClock or reading a book on Eucalyptus or a standalone book app or reading the news and etc. I think it’s nuff said, and these haven’t turned into things I can or do do with my iPhone but they’ve turned into needs, and now I take my iPhone everywhere and can’t live without it for too long.

and every week, a couple new apps and a hundred new usages and before you know it they’re no longer just usages but needs and right now if I didn’t have Stundenplan to keep track of my classes and homework assignments, I’d probably fail or if I didn’t write my diaries every night in iDiary, I’d probably just die of all the things that stash in your heart and you need someone to talk to so you can clear it, and somethings you just can’t tell anyone but your iPhone, and without  PocketPunchClock I could go on for hours on games or other things and not know or without pennies, I could go and spend way past my budget and etc..

so the iPhone changed my life, in a way that not even a computer was able to do for me, but that’s about me, what about the Smartphone market?

Apple certainly set new standards for Smartphones, Touchscreens, high capacity and something like the app store are the three things that turned the game around, before the iPhone, Nokia and RIM were winning with their primitive and simple phones, most of the people who had phones also had PDA’s and they couldn’t live without those PDA’s and it didn’t matter because with Nokia, RIM and Palm the only guys and al three giving the same level stuff out, there wasn’t any competition so no need for new standards but Apple brought those new standards and forced both Nokia and RIM to switch to Touch screens and forced Palm (which already had touch screens) to switch to multi-touch, forced BlackBerry and Nokia into starting their own app store and probably forced Nokia to purchase Java and forced Google to release Android and so on, Apple just pushed one Domino but what dominoes are is they keep falling and this falling isn’t gonna stop, with the iPhone always a year ahead of it’s time, it’s gonna go on forever, it was like taking a gun to a 15th century sword fight, of course you’ll win at first but you’ll force the enemy to use new tactics and that is good maybe not for Apple or Nokia or RIM but for us,the consumers, competition is good for us and we should be happy it is happening.
